IRAs

CAN I INVEST IN PRECIOUS METALS WITH A RETIREMENT ACCOUNT?

Yes.  Options may include:  Traditional, Roth, Simple, SEP or Inherited IRAS, 401ks, TSPs, or other employer sponsored plans.  We encourage anyone looking into these plans to call our office.

WHAT IS A SELF-DIRECTED IRA?

A self-directed IRA is exactly like any other IRA, with one major difference. YOU get to choose where your IRA funds will be invested rather than just accepting whatever the IRA trustee or custodian offers. This gives you greater flexibility because you can choose precious metals, stocks, bonds, CDs, mutual funds, government obligations, and other investments.

CAN I CONTRIBUTE BULLION OR COINS I ALREADY OWN INTO A SELF-DIRECTED IRA?

No, all contributions MUST be made in cash EXCEPT in the case of transfers and rollovers.

ARE THERE STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE FEES FOR A PRECIOUS METALS IRA?

There is a nominal fee for safely storing and insuring your precious metals IRA.

HOW SAFE IS THE STORAGE FACILITY WHERE MY PRECIOUS METALS WILL BE STORED?

We have vetted and chosen to work exclusively with Texas Precious Metals Depository.  You can find more information about the Texas Precious Metals Depository here.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TRADITIONAL AND A ROTH IRA?

Anyone who has qualified earned income can contribute to an IRA each year. Depending on your income, marital status, and participation in the employer’s plans, your contribution to a TRADITIONAL IRA may be deductible. Contributions to a ROTH IRA are never deductible, but qualified distributions from the account are COMPLETELY TAX-FREE. Your tax advisor can help you determine which type of IRA is most appropriate for you.

WHEN I QUALIFY FOR A DISTRIBUTION, MAY I RECEIVE PRECIOUS METALS INSTEAD OF A CHECK?

Yes. These are called “in-kind” distributions and they are permitted.
